I am Jatin Arora, an enthusiastic second-year student pursuing my B.Sc. (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at The University of Northampton. As an international student, finding a university that offers both support and freedom was crucial to me, and I’m delighted to share my incredible experiences with you.

When I stepped foot on this vibrant campus, I knew I had made the right choice. The University of Northampton proved to be a nurturing environment where I could cultivate my passion for AI and explore cutting-edge technologies. One of the key factors that set this university apart was the unwavering support and encouragement provided by the faculty and staff.

Dr. Mu, one of the most inspiring professors I’ve ever met, became my mentor and guide. His guidance and belief in my potential helped me delve into research and expand my horizons. During moments of doubt, he uplifted my spirits and offered valuable insights. With his support, I was well-prepared for interviews, and his encouragement pushed me to aim higher in my academic and professional journey.

The university’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art resources for students like me was evident in the well-equipped AI lab. Here, I had the privilege of working with powerful HP Omen 45L PCs and specialized software packages essential for data analysis and machine learning. This hands-on experience reinforced my classroom learning and allowed me to take on ambitious projects.

But it wasn’t just the academic support that made my journey special; the University of Northampton fostered a sense of community through its active and supportive student union. I took the initiative to establish the Artificial Intelligence Society, a platform that brought together like-minded individuals fascinated by AI. This society became a hub for sharing ideas, engaging in research, and sparking thoughtful discussions about the future of AI.

Imagine my excitement when I was chosen as a panelist for a prestigious AI debate organized by the Association for Learning Technology East England (ALTEE). Representing the university and speaking in favor of AI was a profound experience that further boosted my confidence and communication skills.

I am grateful for the amazing faculty members who went above and beyond to ensure we received the best opportunities. Dr. Mark Johnson, Dr. Mohammed Bhaja, and my personal tutor, Dr. Mu, were always approachable, patient listeners who encouraged me to explore my queries and ideas. Their invaluable advice played a significant role in shaping my career choices.

The University of Northampton’s dedication to offering diverse opportunities led me to secure my first internship after just one year. This milestone not only filled me with immense pride but also instilled a sense of achievement and joy that motivated me to keep pushing boundaries.

Even during summer holidays, the university ensured access to the AI lab 24×7, providing the perfect environment for my personal research and learning. This constant support further solidified my passion for AI and fueled my determination to excel in the field.

To complement my technical skills, I sought assistance from Changemakers, an invaluable resource for enhancing employability skills. Their guidance helped me craft a brilliant CV, and I am currently pursuing the Employability Plus Program, working towards earning the Silver Certificate.

As I immersed myself in AI projects, I realized the immense potential of this field to make a positive impact on society. I developed a facial detection application that analyzes live feeds, an object detection model, and a research project focused on analyzing text sentiments, particularly delving into psychological analysis. The latter allowed me to identify negative emotions and classify specific categories, such as signs of depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. It was a gratifying experience to witness how AI could contribute to mental health awareness.

Throughout my journey, the University of Northampton proved to be more than just an educational institution; it became a second home—a community of support, encouragement, and growth. I am indebted to UoN and my professors for creating an environment that fosters dreams and nurtures aspirations.

In conclusion, my time at The University of Northampton has been nothing short of transformative.
